Walnut Wood Slab/Live Edge Desk
This walnut wood slab desk is certainly not your traditional desk. The top
is made from a single 3" thick piece of walnut purchased from Full Cyle Woodworks.
I found this place originally on eBay and then we stopped by during our trip to Tennessee. It's located in an old school building that has a bunch of these
wood slabs thrown all down the hallway and in the rooms. You go digging through
the stacks until you find one you like. The one we picked is about 22" at
it's widest point and goes down to about 15" on the left side by 34" long.
The legs were also taken from a single 10' walnut board. The picture below
shows the right side where I was able to use the grain to give it a bookmatched
look. The stainless steel cross members were made from a shower curtain rod
I cut down.
You can see from the front view the natural edge that was left on it. All the bark was scraped off revealing some interesting grain.
The top view really shows off the curly figure of the slab. The curly continues
into the right side where the crotch adds even more detail.
You can see the left side was built more narrow than the right to reflect the varying
width. The picture on the right really shows off the bookmatched figure of
the legs. It also shows how the top is shaped and the sapwood that runs down
both sides.
