Wall Mounted Jewelry Cabinet

After trying to decide what type of wood to use on this piece, I finally chose Curly Maple and Walnut. It turned out to be the perfect choice. The two tone look with the box joints on the cabinet really makes the grain in the Curly Maple pop.

The cabinet was designed to utilize unused space behind a bedroom door. It's dimensions are 16" W x 52" H x 3 3/4" deep. The mirror in the door was taken out of cheap wall mounted frame. The kind you can find at Wal-Mart for about $5.

The interior of the cabinet is lined with Silver Guard Anti-tarnish fabric to help protect the jewelry and give it that little extra touch.

Screw eye hooks found at Target were used as the necklace hooks. They have a rubbed bronze finish to help blend in with the fabric background.

I used two coats of Formby's Tung Oil finish to help bring out the grain in the Curly Maple. It was then finished with three coats of Gloss Minwax Wipe-On Polyurethane.
